September 28. 2010

It has been a week since I came back from my 2 months journey across Europe. My feet have started to get restless. It is time once again to pack my bags and head out on another adventure. This time I fly down south to South America to the fascinating country of Peru. I will be spending the next 3 weeks trekking across the country and exploring ancient sites and ruins, lost civilizations, colonial towns, indigenous villages and the wild life in the Amazon Jungle. I will be doing this with Gap Adventures.
This is my itinerary:
Lima
Pisco
Nazca
Arequipa
Colca Canyon
Puno
Lake Titicaca
Cuzco
Inca Trail (4 days hike to Machu Picchu)
Amazon Jungle
Based from my previous travels and my luck, I doubt that my checked in baggage will arrive on time. So I have decided to ditch my old backpack and got a new and smaller one so that I can bring as a carry-on. This means I have to travel lighter. I managed to accomplish this by packing a week worth of quick dry clothing (i.e. towel, shirts, pants, shorts, undies, socks).
I should be all set now. I got my yellow-fever vaccine a few months ago. I got traveler’s diarhea and malaria prevention prescription drugs. I opted not to get medication for altitude sickness. I am hoping I will get proper acclimatisation.
Just a few more hours to go and my journey will begin. I can’t wait. But for now I need to sleep.
